Type species: ¤ Tropicimonas isoalkanivorans Harwati et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. adj. tropicus, tropical, pertaining to the tropical zone of the Earth; L. fem. n. monas, unit, unicell; N.L. fem. n. Tropicimonas, a unicell belonging to the tropical zone.
