Etymology: L. n. vallis, a valley, vale; L. fem. n. talea a rod; N.L. fem. n. Vallitalea a rod isolated from a vale.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. pronyensis, of or belonging to Prony Bay, where the type strain was isolated.
