🧍 After these two years had passed without anyone claiming to possess an authentic type strain or proposing a neotype strain, the Judicial Commission [3] has decided in favour of the request by Tindall et al. 2000 [2]. The genus name Pelczaria and the species name Pelczaria aurantia are to be placed on the list of nomina rejicienda [3].Publication:
Judicial Commission. Judicial Opinion No. 78. Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 2005; 55:515.
🧍 On the basis of the 16S rDNA sequence data, DNA-DNA hybridization data, chemotaxonomic data and morphological data, Schumann et al. 2000 [1] consider that the type strain (ATCC 49321 DSM 12801) of Pelczaria aurantia Poston 1994 and the type strain (DSM 20447 ATCC 186 CCM 679) of Kocuria rosea (Flügge 1886) Stackebrandt et al. 1995 are strains of the same species. According to Rule 42, the two species should be united in one genus, and in the same species. Both species are the type species of the respective genera and Pelczaria aurantia has priority. However, the type strain of Pelczaria aurantia currently being distributed does not conform to the description of the type strain of Pelczaria aurantia as described by Poston 1993.Publication:
Schumann P, Tindall BJ, Mendrock U, Kramer I, Stackebrandt E. Pelczaria aurantia ATCC 49321T (=DSM 12801T) is a strain of Kocuria rosea (Flugge 1886) Stackebrandt et al. 1995. Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 2000; 50:1421-1424.
🧍 Tindall et al. 2000 [2] requested that the Judicial Commission consider (i) that the organism currently deposited as ATCC 49321 and DSM 12801 be recognized as a member of the species Kocuria rosea; (ii) that the organism deposited as ATCC 49321 and DSM 12801 does not represent a strain of the species Pelczaria aurantia; (iii) to place the names Pelczaria and Pelczaria aurantia on the list of rejected names if a suitable replacement strain, or a neotype, cannot be found within two years (Rule 18c).Publication:
