- According to Sakata et al. 2002, Bifidobacterium suis Matteuzzi et al. 1971 (Approved Lists 1980) is a later heterotypic synonym of Bifidobacterium longum Reuter 1963 (Approved Lists 1980). This latter species can be divided into three biovars, namely the Suis biovar, the Infantis biovar and the Longum biovar by molecular methods. Publication: Klein G.
