🧍 Illegitimate according to Tindall (2020). Legionella pittsburghensis Pasculle et al. 1980 and Legionella micdadei Hébert et al. 1980 have the same type strain. These names were validly published by citation on Validation List no. 5. On Validation List no. 5, the priority numbers (these reflect the dates of receipt of the validation request in the form that is accepted for publication) are not given. So, according to Rules 24a and 24b (2), Legionella pittsburghensis Pasculle et al. 1980 and Legionella micdadei Hébert et al. 1980 are homotypic synonyms, and it is impossible to determine the priority. However, it is irrelevant which of the two Legionella names was validly published first, since they are both validly published after Tatlockia micdadei (see below). Legionella pittsburghensis Pasculle et al. 1980 and Legionella micdadei Hébert et al. 1980 are also later homotypic synonyms of Tatlockia micdadei Garrity et al. 1980 (Tatlockia micdadei has page priority). According to Rule 51b (2), an author must use the earliest legitimate epithet available for the taxon with its particular circumscription, position and rank, and any homotypic synonyms based on the name Tatlockia micdadei must use the epithet micdadei (the earliest validly published epithet). Consequently, Legionella pittsburghensis Pasculle et al. 1980 is not in accordance with the rules of the ICNP. Acknowledgements: The author is very grateful to Dr. B.J. Tindall (DSMZ) for his helpful comments.Publication:
