Acidimicrobium Clark and Norris 1996, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Acidimicrobiales Stackebrandt et al. 1997; type genus of the family ¤ Acidimicrobiaceae Stackebrandt et al. 1997).
Type species: ¤ Acidimicrobium ferrooxidans Clark and Norris 1996.
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. acidum (from L. adj. acidus, sour), an acid; N.L. neut. n. microbium (from Gr. adj. mikros, small; and Gr. masc. n. bios, life), a microbe; N.L. neut. n. Acidimicrobium, a small bacterium (microbes) from acidic environments.
