Aerococcus Williams et al. 1953, genus. (Type genus of the family ¤ Aerococcaceae Ludwig et al. 2010).
Type species: ¤ Aerococcus viridans Williams et al. 1953 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. masc. n. aer, air, gas; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. n. kokkos), a berry; N.L. masc. n. Aerococcus, air coccus.
