Type species: ¤ Azospira oryzae Reinhold-Hurek and Hurek 2000.
Etymology: N.L. n. azotum [from Fr. n. azote (from Gr. prep. a, not; Gr. n. zôê, life; N.Gr. n. azôê, not sustaining life)], nitrogen; N.L. pref. azo-, pertaining to nitrogen; L. fem. n. spira, coil, spire; N.L. fem. n. Azospira, nitrogen-fixing spiral.
