Type species: ¤ Catalinimonas alkaloidigena Choi et al. 2013.
Etymology: N.L. n. Catalina, Catalina Island in the Channel Islands, CA, USA; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Catalinimonas, a monad from Catalina Island, referring to the isolation of the type strain of the type species.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. niigatensis, pertaining to Niigata Prefecture, Japan, the source of the lake sediment from which the organism was isolated.
