Chelatobacter Auling et al. 1993, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Chelatobacter heintzii Auling et al. 1993.
Etymology: N.L. v. chelato (from Gr. n. chele, claw), to form claw-like complexes with divalent cations, i.e. to chelate; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod or staff; N.L. masc. n. Chelatobacter, chelating rod.

Note: Kämpfer et al. 2002 propose to transfer ¤ Chelatobacter heintzii Auling et al. 1993 (the type species of the genus Chelatobacter) to the genus ¤ Aminobacter as ¤ Aminobacter aminovorans (den Dooren de Jong 1926) Urakami et al. 1992 emend. Kämpfer et al. 2002. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Chelatobacter to ¤ Aminobacter.

Chelatobacter heintzii Auling et al. 1993, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) ATCC 29600= DSM 10368.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: not found.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. heintzii, of Heintz; named after the chemist W. Heintz who was the first to synthesize the chelating agent NTA (Heintz 1862, 1865) and to describe some of its properties.
