Chelatobacter Auling et al. 1993, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Chelatobacter heintzii Auling et al. 1993.
Etymology: N.L. v. chelato (from Gr. n. chele, claw), to form claw-like complexes with divalent cations, i.e. to chelate; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod or staff; N.L. masc. n. Chelatobacter, chelating rod.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 46. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1993, 43, 624-625.
Effective publication: AULING (G.), BUSSE (H.J.), EGLI (T.), EL-BANNA (T.) and STACKEBRANDT (E.): Description of the gram-negative, obligately aerobic, nitrilotriacetate (NTA)-utilizing bacteria as Chelatobacter heintzii, gen. nov., sp. nov., and Chelatococcus asaccharovorans, gen. nov., sp. nov. Syst. Appl. Microbiol., 1993, 16, 104-112.
Validation List no. 46 in IJSEM Online - Effective publication Online

¤ Aminobacter Urakami et al. 1992 emend. Kämpfer et al. 2002.

Note: Kämpfer et al. 2002 propose to transfer ¤ Chelatobacter heintzii Auling et al. 1993 (the type species of the genus Chelatobacter) to the genus ¤ Aminobacter as ¤ Aminobacter aminovorans (den Dooren de Jong 1926) Urakami et al. 1992 emend. Kämpfer et al. 2002. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Chelatobacter to ¤ Aminobacter.

Chelatobacter heintzii Auling et al. 1993, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) ATCC 29600= DSM 10368.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: not found.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. heintzii, of Heintz; named after the chemist W. Heintz who was the first to synthesize the chelating agent NTA (Heintz 1862, 1865) and to describe some of its properties.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 46. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1993, 43, 624-625.

¤ Aminobacter aminovorans (den Dooren de Jong 1926) Urakami et al. 1992 emend. Kämpfer et al. 2002.

Note: According to Kämpfer et al. 2002, Chelatobacter heintzii Auling et al. 1993 is a later heterotypic synonym of ¤ Aminobacter aminovorans (den Dooren de Jong 1926) Urakami et al. 1992 emend. Kämpfer et al. 2002.
