Chloroflexus Pierson and Castenholz 1974, genus. (Type genus of the order ¤ Chloroflexales Gupta et al. 2013; type genus of the family ¤ Chloroflexaceae Gupta et al. 2013; type genus of the suborder ¤ Chloroflexineae Gupta et al. 2013).
Type species: ¤ Chloroflexus aurantiacus Pierson and Castenholz 1974 (Approved Lists 1980).

Etymology: Gr. adj. chlôros, green; L. masc. n. flexus, a bending; N.L. masc. n. Chloroflexus, green bending.

Etymology: L. v. aggregare, to flock or band together; L. part. adj. aggregans, assembling, aggregating.
