Type genus: ¤ Cytophaga Winogradsky 1929 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Cytophaga, type genus of the order; suff. -ales, ending denoting an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Cytophagales, the Cytophaga order.
