Dorea Taras et al. 2002, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Dorea formicigenerans (Holdeman and Moore 1974) Taras et al. 2002.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Dorea, named  in honour of the French microbiologist Joel Doré, in recognition of his many contributions to gut microbiology.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) ATCC 27755= DSM 3992.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: L34619.
Basonym: ¤ Eubacterium formicigenerans Holdeman and Moore 1974 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. n. acidum formicum, formic acid; L. part. adj. generans, producing; N.L. adj. formicigenerans, formic acid-producing; referring to its production of large amounts of formic acid from carbohydrate fermentation.

Note: According to Rules 27(3) and 30, this name is not validly published because the effective publication only documents deposit of the type strain in a single recognized culture collection. However, according to the Judicial Opinion 81, Dorea formicigenerans (Holdeman and Moore 1974) Taras et al. 2002 is to be considered to be validly published.

Dorea longicatena Taras et al. 2002, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) 111-35 = DSM 13814 = CCUG 45247 = JCM 11232.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AJ132842.
Etymology: L. adj. longus, long; L. fem. n. catena, chain; N.L. fem. n. longicatena, a long chain, referring to the long chains that this organism develops in culture medium.
