Note: VPI 0989, the type strain in the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names was deposited in ATCC (ATCC 25578 but was lost in both collections. A different isolate, VPI 0990 = ATCC 33656= CIP 105953, from the same fecal sample has been deposited to represent the type strain. Because these isolates came from the same sample, Moore and Holdeman Moore believe that they are the same strain. According to Rule 18c, a neotype strain must be proposed in the IJSB (now IJSEM) and the proposal by Moore and Holdeman Moore is illegitimate. The neotype strain VPI 0990 = ATCC 33656= CIP 105953 is not an established neotype (see Rule 18c).

2 In the Kilian's opinion [1] the change of the well-established name Eubacterium tarantellus may be a source of confusion. So, with reference to the first Principle of the Bacteriological Code (1990 Revision), Kilian requested that the original name Eubacterium tarantellus be conserved [2]. The Judicial Commission denied this request, and no Opinion will be issued upon this request [3].
