Type species: ¤ Elytrosporangium brasiliense corrig. Falcão de Morais et al. 1966 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. n. elutron, sheath, capsule; N.L. n. sporangium [from Gr. n. spora, a seed (and in biology a spore), and Gr. n. angeion (Latin transliteration angium), vessel], sporangium; N.L. neut. n. Elytrosporangium, an organism with sheathed sporangium.
