Etymology: Gr. pref. epi-, on; L. neut. n. bacterium, a small rod or staff; N.L. neut. n. Epibacterium, rod on a surface.

Basonym: ¤ Ruegeria scottomollicae Vandecandelaere et al. 2008.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. scottomollicae, in honour of Dr Victoria Scotto-Mollica and Dr Alfonso Mollica, both of whom were pioneers in the field of microbe-induced corrosion of steels and the generation of electroactive seawater biofilms.
