Faenia Kurup and Agre 1983, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Faenia rectivirgula (Krasil'nikov and Agre 1964) Kurup and Agre 1983.
Etymology: L. n. faenum, hay; L. (sic) fem (sic) pl. n. Faenia, a genus of bacteria associated with hay.
Valid publication: KURUP (V.P.) and AGRE (N.S.): Transfer of Micropolyspora rectivirgula (Krasil'nikov and Agre 1964) Lechevalier, Lechevalier, and Becker 1966 to Faenia gen. nov. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1983, 33, 663-665.

Note: According to Kurup and Agre, the genus name Faenia is a Latin feminine plural name. However, according to Rule 10a, the name of a genus must be a substantive, or an adjective used as a substantive, in the singular number. Consequently, Faenia Kurup and Agre 1983 is an illegitimate name. Moreover, the Latin noun faenum is in the neuter gender and the plural nominative should be faena (without i).
→ ¤ Saccharopolyspora Lacey and Goodfellow 1975 (Approved Lists 1980).
Note: Korn-Wendisch et al. 1989 propose to transfer ¤ Faenia rectivirgula (Krasil'nikov and Agre 1964) Kurup and Agre 1983 (the type species of the genus Faenia) to the genus ¤ Saccharopolyspora as ¤ Saccharopolyspora rectivirgula (Krasil'nikov and Agre 1964) Korn-Wendisch et al. 1989, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Faenia to ¤ Saccharopolyspora.
