Type genus: ¤ Gemmatimonas Zhang et al. 2003.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Gemmatimonas, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Gemmatimonadaceae, the Gemmatimonas family.
