Kitasatoa Matsumae and Hata 1968, genus.
Type species: ¤ Kitasatoa purpurea Matsumae and Hata 1968 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Kitasatoa, named for Kitasato, a Japanese bacteriologist (1852-1931).

According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Kitasatoa to ¤ Streptomyces.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) ATCC 27788= JCM 3176.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: not found.
Etymology: Gr. adj. diplos (or diploos), twofold, double; Gr. n. spora, a seed and in biology a spore; N.L. n. diplospora, double spore.
