Note: The specific epithet damsela (sic) has been corrected in the new combination Photobacterium damselae [see, ¤ Photobacterium damselae corrig. (Love et al. 1982) Smith et al. 1991, comb. nov.]. However the name "Listonella damselae" corrig. has never been formally proposed before December 14, 2000 (date of publication of the amended Rule 61; see Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2000, 50, page 2239, column 2). Consequently, in the "List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature", the epithet damsela (sic) has been maintained for Listonella damsela.

Other synonym: ¤ Vibrio pelagius (Baumann et al. 1971) Baumann et al. 1981.
Etymology: L. fem. adj. pelagia, of or belonging to the sea.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 20. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1986, 36, 354-356.

Validation List no. 20 in IJSEM Online - Effective publication Online

Notes:
1 Baumann et al. deposited the type strain of Listonella pelagia (¤ Beneckea pelagia) at the American Type Culture Collection as ATCC 25916, and at the National Collections of Industrial Food and Marine Bacteria as NCIMB (formerly NCMB) 1900. According to Macián et al. 2000, the strain ATCC 25916and strains directly derived from ATCC 25916(i.e. strain CECT 4202) really represent the originally described type strain whereas strain NCIMB 1900 and strains derived from NCIMB 1900 (i.e. strain CIP 102762) highly likely are representatives of ¤ Vibrio natriegens (Payne et al. 1961) Baumann et al. 1981.
