Microsphaeraceae Rainey et al. 1997 (complete authorship reads Rainey, Ward-Rainey and Stackebrandt), fam. nov.
Type genus: ¤ Microsphaera Yoshimi et al. 1996.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Microsphaera, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Microsphaeraceae, the Microsphaera family.

¤ Nakamurellaceae Tao et al. 2004, fam. nov.

Note: The name Microsphaeraceae Rainey et al. 1997 is illegitimate because the type genus (¤ Microsphaera Yoshimi et al. 1996) is illegitimate (see ¤ Microsphaera). Consequently, a new family designation ¤ Nakamurellaceae has been proposed by Tao et al. 2004.
