Type species: ¤ Microterricola viridarii Matsumoto et al. 2008.
Etymology: Gr. adj. mikros, small; L. fem. n. terricola, dweller in soil; N.L. fem. n. Microterricola, a small dweller in soil.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) PON10=LMG 24222=JCM 15132=MTCC9128.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AM900767.
Basonym: ¤ Leifsonia pindariensis Reddy et al. 2008.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. pindariensis, pertaining to the Pindari glacier of the Himalayan region of India, from where the type strain was isolated.
