Parachlamydia Everett et al. 1999, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Parachlamydiaceae Everett et al. 1999).
Type species: ¤ Parachlamydia acanthamoebae Everett et al. 1999.
Etymology: Gr. prep. para, beside, alongside of, near, like; N.L. fem. n. Chlamydia, taxonomic name of a bacterial genus; N.L. fem. n. Parachlamydia, resembling the genus Chlamydia.

Etymology: N.L. n. Acanthamoeba, taxonomic name of a genus of Acanthamoebidae; N.L. gen. n. acanthamoebae, of (living in) members of the genus Acanthamoeba.
