Type genus: ¤ Peptostreptococcus Kluyver and van Niel 1936 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Peptostreptococcus, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Peptostreptococcaceae, family of the genus Peptostreptococcus.
