Picrophilaceae Schleper et al. 1996 (complete authorship reads: Schleper, Zillig and Pühler), fam. nov.
Type genus: ¤ Picrophilus Schleper et al. 1996.
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Picrophilus, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Picrophilaceae, the Picrophilus family.
