Type species: ¤ Salegentibacter salegens McCammon and Bowman 2000.
Etymology: L. n. sal salis, salt; L. part. adj. egens, being in need; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Salegentibacter, salt-needy rod, referring to the high level of salt requirement.
