Type genus: ¤ Simonsiella Schmid 1922 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Simonsiella, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Simonsiellaceae, the Simonsiella family.

Note: According to Rossau et al., the type genus of the familly Simonsiellaceae should be included in the family ¤ Neisseriaceae Prévot 1933 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Rossau et al. 1989. So, the family name Simonsiellaceae Steed 1962 (Approved List 1980) should be treated as a later heterotypic synonym of ¤ Neisseriaceae Prévot 1933 (Approved List 1980).
