→ ¤ Thermoanaerobacter Wiegel and Ljungdahl 1982.
Note: Rainey and Stackebrandt 1993 propose to transfer ¤ Thermobacteroides acetoethylicus Ben-Bassat and Zeikus 1983 (the type species of the genus Thermobacteroides) to the genus ¤ Thermoanaerobacter as ¤ Thermoanaerobacter acetoethylicus (Ben-Bassat and Zeikus 1983) Rainey and Stackebrandt 1993, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Thermobacteroides to ¤ Thermoanaerobacter.

Note: The transfer of Thermobacteroides acetoethylicus Ben-Bassat and Zeikus 1983 (the type species of the genus Thermobacteroides) to the genus ¤ Thermoanaerobacter as ¤ Thermoanaerobacter acetoethylicus (Ben-Bassat and Zeikus 1983) Rainey and Stackebrandt 1993, invalidates the genus Thermobacteroides. The species ¤ Thermobacteroides proteolyticus Ollivier et al. 1985 has been transferred in the new genus ¤ Coprothermobacter as ¤ Coprothermobacter proteolyticus (Ollivier et al. 1985) Rainey and Stackebrandt 1993, comb. nov. However, the phylogenetic position of the third species of the genus Thermobacteroides, Thermobacteroides leptospartum Toda et al. 1989, cannot be determined because the type strain (strain C-17-70 = IAM 13499) was unavailable.
