Thermococcoides Feng et al. 2010, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Thermococcoides shengliensis Feng et al. 2010.
Etymology: Gr. n. thermê, heat; N.L. n. coccus (from Gr. n. kokkos, a berry), coccus; L. suff. -oides (from Gr. suff. -eides, from Gr. n. eidos, that which is seen, form, shape, figure) resembling, similar; N.L. masc. n. Thermococcoides, a coccus-shaped bacterium which likes heat.

Note: Nunoura et al. 2013 propose to transfer ¤ Thermococcoides shengliensis Feng et al. 2010 (the type species of the genus Thermococcoides Feng et al. 2010) to the genus ¤ Kosmotoga DiPippo et al. 2009 as ¤ Kosmotoga shengliensis (Feng et al. 2010) Nunoura et al. 2013, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Thermococcoides to ¤ Kosmotoga.
