Validation List no. 36 in IJSEM Online

Note: In Approved List no. 36, the type strain VKM B-1128 is cited as VKM V-1128.

¤ Thermodesulfobacterium thermophilum (Rozanova and Khudyakova 1974) Rozanova and Pivovarova 1995, comb. nov.

Note:
Rozanova and Pivovarova 1991 proposed the new combination Thermodesulfobacterium mobile (basonym: ¤ Desulfovibrio thermophilus). This new combination was illegitimate because 1) the genus name did not appear on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names and had not been validly published in the International Journal of Systematic Bacteriology since 1980 to 1991 (the genus name was validly published in 1995!); and 2) Rozanova and Pivovarova did not retain the specific epithet of the Desulfovibrio species (Rules 34a and 41a).
Tao et al. 1996 [1], requested (i) that the date of valid publication of Rozanova and Pivovarova's organism be considered the date in 1995 when Zeikus et al. validly published the names of the genus Thermodesulfobacterium and its type species Thermodesulfobacterium commune (publication date: 9 January 1995); and (ii) that the name of Rozanova and Pivovarova' organism which is based on type strain VKM V-1128 = DSM 1276, should be Thermodesulfobacterium thermophilum.
The Judicial Commission [2, 3] comes to the conclusion that this Request for an Opinion is accepted.
