Type species: ¤ Thiocapsa roseopersicina Winogradsky 1888 (Approved Lists 1980).

Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; L. fem. n. capsa, box; N.L. fem. n. Thiocapsa, sulfur box.
