Vitreoscilla Pringsheim 1949, genus. (Type genus of the family ¤ Vitreoscillaceae Pringsheim 1949 [Approved Lists 1980]).
Type species: ¤ Vitreoscilla beggiatoides Pringsheim 1949 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: L. adj. vitreus, vitreous, clear, transparent; L. neut. n. oscillum, a swing; N.L. fem. n. Vitreoscilla, transparent swing, transparent oscillator.
