Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Yania, named after Xun-Chu Yan (1912-1994), a Chinese microbiologist who devoted his life to the study of actinomycete taxonomy and antibiotics.

Note: The name Yania Li et al. 2004 is illegitimate because it is a later homonym of Yania Roewer 1919 (Opiliones, Arachnida, Arthropoda, Animalia), and a later homonym of Yania Huang 1997 (Hesperiidae, Papilionoidea, Heteroneura, Glossata, Lepidoptera, Insecta, Arthropoda, Animalia). See Principle 2. Consequently, a new genus designation ¤ Yaniella Li et al. 2008 has been proposed by Li et al. 2008.
