Yania Li et al. 2004, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Yaniaceae Li et al. 2005).
Type species: ¤ Yania halotolerans Li et al. 2004.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Yania, named after Xun-Chu Yan (1912-1994), a Chinese microbiologist who devoted his life to the study of actinomycete taxonomy and antibiotics.
Valid publication: LI (W.J.), CHEN (H.H.), XU (P.), ZHANG (Y.Q.), SCHUMANN (P.), TANG (S.K.), XU (L.H.) and JIANG (C.L.): Yania halotolerans gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel member of the suborder Micrococcineae from saline soil in China. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2004, 54, 525-531.
Original article in IJSEM Online

Note: The full name of the late Professor Yan must be Xun-Chu Yan, not Sun-Chu Yan as cited in the paper by Li et al. 2004.

¤ Yaniella Li et al. 2008, gen. nov.

Note: The name Yania Li et al. 2004 is illegitimate because it is a later homonym of Yania Roewer 1919 (Opiliones, Arachnida, Arthropoda, Animalia), and a later homonym of Yania Huang 1997 (Hesperiidae, Papilionoidea, Heteroneura, Glossata, Lepidoptera, Insecta, Arthropoda, Animalia). See Principle 2. Consequently, a new genus designation ¤ Yaniella Li et al. 2008 has been proposed by Li et al. 2008.
