Zoogloea Itzigsohn 1868 (not Zoogloea Cohn 1854), genus.
Type species: ¤ Zoogloea ramigera Itzigsohn 1868 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. adj. zôos, alive, living; Gr. fem. n. gloia, glue; N.L. fem. n. Zoogloea, living glue.

Zoogloea caeni Shao et al. 2009, sp. nov.

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: DQ413148.
Etymology: L. gen. n. caeni, of mud, referring to the isolation of the type strain from activated sludge.

Etymology: L. n. oleum, oil; L. v. vorare, to devour; N.L. part. adj. oleivorans, capable of utilizing oil (hydrocarbons).

Zoogloea oryzae Xie and Yokota 2006, sp. nov.

Etymology: L. gen. n. oryzae, of rice, from the rice paddy fields from which the strains were isolated.
