Etymology: Si.re.ni.ca.pil.la.ri.a. N.L. fem. n. Sirenicapillaria, From Latin Siren, a Siren, and Latin capillus, hair, in reference to the long thalli and ‘mermaid’s hair’ appearance of these marine cyanobacteria

Type species: Sirenicapillaria stauglerae Berthold et al. 2022
