Etymology: Lim’no.spi.ra. Gr. Limni, lake, lagoon (λίμνη); Gr. fem. n. speîra, spiral (σπείρα); N.L. fem. n. Limnospira, the generic name refers to the morphology of trichomes and typical habitat, i.e. lakes
Gender: feminine (stem: Limnospir-)
