Etymology: fla.vo.tri.ci.ni. L. masc. adj. flavus, yellow; Gr. fem. n. thrix, the hair; N.L. gen. neut. n. flavotricini, of yellow hair, probably referring to yellow diffusible pigment and formation of a streptothricin-like antibiotic (sic) [probably better: flavitrichis]
