Note: E. Stackebrandt et al. 1982 [1] proposed combining Brevibacterium fermentans, ¤ Brevibacterium lyticum, ¤ Nocardia cellulans, ¤ Oerskovia xanthineolytica, and ¤ Cellulomonas cartae in one species which was named ¤ Cellulomonas cartae Stackebrandt and Kandler 1980. The proposal to combine all five species under the name Cellulomonas cartae is not in accordance with the Bacteriological Code because the specific epithet cellulans in Nocardia cellulans Metcalf and Brown 1957 has priority over the specific epithet cartae in Cellulomonas cartae Stackebrandt and Kandler 1980 [Rules 38 and 42]. Therefore, the name of the taxon under which they are united is ¤ Cellulomonas cellulans (Metcalf and Brown 1957) Stackebrandt and Keddie 1988 [2, 3].
