Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; L. adj. ruber -bra brum, red; L. neut. n. bacterium, rod; N.L. neut. n. Halorubrobacterium salt (-requiring) and red bacterium.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) Ch2 = ACM 3911 = JCM 9275.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: L00922.
Etymology: N.L. neut. adj. coriense, pertaining to Corio, a saltern along Corio Bay, Geelong, Australia, where the organism was originally isolated.
