Etymology: fir.mi.cu.ti.ma’chus. N.L. masc. n. firmicutimachus, from Gr. machos, 'fighting' and Firmicutes phylum of bacteria that currently include all low G+C Gram-positive bacteria, referring to the antibacterial activity of the strain, particularly combatting Gram-positive bacteria due to the production of antibiotics of the plusbacin class (nominative in apposition)
