High genetic similarity of Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus difficilis: S. difficilis Eldar et al. 1995 is a later synonym of S. agalactiae Lehmann and Neumann 1896 (Approved Lists 1980). 🧍 Vandamme et al. 1997 demonstrate that Streptococcus difficilis corrig. Eldar et al. 1995 is a group B streptococcus belonging to the capsular serotype Ib group with a whole-cell protein pattern and phenotypic characteristics similar to those of other type Ib variants of Streptococcus agalactiae Lehmann and Neumann 1896 (Approved Lists 1980).
