heterotypic synonym, validly published under the ICNP
For the type species of this genus another name is in use, which is affiliated with the genus Citrobacter Werkman and Gillen 1932 (Approved Lists 1980).Publication:
Farmer Iii JJ. The genus Citrobacter. In: Starr MP, et al. (eds), The procaryotes, a handbook on habitats, isolation, and identification of bacteria, Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1981, p. 1140-1147.
This taxon name is occasionally misprinted in some sources as: "Leuinea"; "Levineae"; "Levmea".
Levinea is the correct name instead if this genus is regarded as a separate genus (i.e., if its nomenclatural type is not assigned to another genus whose name is validly published, legitimate and not rejected and has priority).
The BRCs most frequently used for deposits in this group are: CCUG: 2; ATCC: 2; DSM: 2; JCM: 2; NCTC: 1; LMG: 1; CIP: 1.
Pittman et al. (1991) suggested the abbreviation "LEVN" for this genus name but this does not appear to be of practical relevance any longer.Publication:
Pittman KF, Walczak CA, Lock CM. Codes and abbreviations for approved of effectively published names of genera of bacteria published from January 1980 to December 1990. Int J Syst Bacteriol 1991; 41:571-579.
Brenner and Farmer 1982 proposed that the type species of Levinea be transferred to the Citrobacter. These authors did not, however, make any proposal regarding the transfer of Levinea malonatica to either Citrobacter or another genus.Publication:
