heterotypic synonym, validly published under the ICNP
For the type species of this genus another name is in use, which is affiliated with the genus Citrobacter Werkman and Gillen 1932 (Approved Lists 1980).Publication:
Farmer Iii JJ. The genus Citrobacter. In: Starr MP, et al. (eds), The procaryotes, a handbook on habitats, isolation, and identification of bacteria, Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1981, p. 1140-1147.
This taxon name is occasionally misprinted in some sources as: "Leuinea"; "Levmea".
Levinea is the correct name if this genus is regarded as a separate genus (i.e., if its nomenclatural type is not assigned to another genus whose name is validly published, legitimate and not rejected and has priority).
Brenner and Farmer 1982 proposed that the type species of Levinea be transferred to the Citrobacter. These authors did not, however, make any proposal regarding the transfer of Levinea malonatica to either Citrobacter or another genus.Publication:
