Etymology: schlei’fe.ri. N.L. gen. masc. n. schleiferi, of Schleifer, named after K.H. Schleifer, a German microbiologist who contributed to the elucidation of the primary structure of peptidoglycan and to taxonomic studies of the strains belonging to this species
