The Candidatus designation is for new, incompletely described taxa, in order to give them a provisional status; changing validly published names to Candidatus would lose their standing in nomenclature. So, Neimark et al. revise "Candidatus Mycoplasma haemofelis" to Mycoplasma haemofelis nom. nov. — For the transfer of Haemobartonella felis (ex Clark 1942) Kreier and Ristic 1984 to the genus Mycoplasma Nowak 1929 (Approved Lists 1980) it is necessary to substitute a new specific epithet to produce Mycoplasma haemofelis because the name Mycoplasma felis Cole et al. 1967 (Approved Lists 1980) already existed (Rules 34a and 41a).
