🧍 Illegitimate according to Silva (1980) because based on Rivularia C. Agardh ex Bornet et Flahault 1886, which is a later homonym of Rivularia Roth 1797. Silva (1980) further points out that as circumscribed in the Index Nominum Genericorum, the Rivulariaceae also include Tildenia Kossinskaja 1926, which is a later homonym and the type of the family name Tildeniaceae Kossinskaja 1926, which is not in accordance with the rules of the ICNafp and was replaced by Setchelliella De Toni f. 1936 and Setchelliellaceae De Toni f. 1938, respectively; Hammatoidea Lemmermann 1907, which is an orthographic variant of Ammatoidea W. West et G. S. West 1897 and not in accordance with the rules of the ICNafp as well as the type of the family name Hammatoideaceae Elenkin 1949, which is neither in accordance with the rules of the ICNafp; and Homoeothrix (Thuret ex Bornet et Flahault) Kirchner 1898, the type of Homoeotrichaceae Elenkin 1949. Silva (1980) also remarks that "Rivularia Roth 1797 was emended by C. Agardh (1817, pp. xxxviii, 130) to exclude both of the original species, which effectively created a homonym. Rivularia Roth is a later taxonomic synonym of Chaetophora Schrank 1783 in the Chlorophyceae. Conservation of the cyanophycean Rivularia, which I have proposed elsewhere, would make Rivulariaceae available. An alternative course would be to adopt Calotrichaceae Cooke 1890, based on Calothrix, a genus usually considered confamilial with Rivularia.".Publication:
