Etymology: Ko.ma.ga.ta.bac’ter. N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; from Gr. neut. n. baktron, rod; N.L. masc. n. Komagatabacter, Komagata rod, derived from Dr. Kazuo Komagata, Professor Emeritus, The University of Tokyo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan, who contributed to the bacterial systematics, especially of acetic acid bacteria
