Etymology: jo.han’nae. N.L. gen. fem. n. johannae, of Johanna, in honour of the Brazilian microbiologist Johanna Döbereiner, who isolated the first nitrogen-fixing species of the genus Gluconacetobacter and discovered several other nitrogen-fixing bacteria
