Notes:
- Streptomyces erythraeus is the correct name if this species is regarded as a separate species (i.e., if its nomenclatural type is not assigned to another species whose name is validly published, legitimate and not rejected and has priority) within a separate genus Streptomyces.
- Labeda 1987 [1], proposed also an emendation of Streptomyces erythraeus [Streptomyces erythraeus (Waksman 1923) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Labeda 1987] with a neotype strain: strain NRRL B-5616 = NRRL-ISP 5059 = Sanchez-Marroquin A-24. According to Rules 18c and 18g, only the Judicial Commission may decide to take action leading to replacement of the type strain and according to Rule 37a(2) retention of a name in a sense which excludes the type can only be effected by conservation and only by the Judicial Commission. Therefore, Streptomyces erythraeus (Waksman 1923) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Labeda 1987 is not in accordance with the rules of the ICNP and may not be used (Rule 51a) and a new species Streptomyces labedae Lacey 1987 is provided for this taxon [2]. — Rule 17 states that the type determines the application of a taxon if the taxon is subsequently divided or united with another taxon, and Rule 40b that the specific epithet must be retained for the species which includes the type strain. Since Saccharopolyspora erythraea (Waksman 1923) Labeda 1987 contains the type strain of Streptomyces erythraeus (Waksman 1923) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980), the new taxon must be regarded as a new combination. Publication: Lacey J. - The type strain (ATCC 11635= NRRL 2338 = NRRL-ISP 5517) of Streptomyces erythraeus (Waksman 1923) Waksman and Henrici 1948 (Approved Lists 1980) is not a representative of the genus Streptomyces Waksman and Henrici 1943 (Approved Lists 1980) and a new species, Saccharopolyspora erythraea Labeda 1987, is created for this strain and other strains having type IV cell walls [1].
