Bacillus simplex (ex Meyer and Gottheil 1901) Priest et al. 1989 emend. Heyrman et al. 2005 also encompasses strains belonging to "Bacillus maroccanus" Delaporte and Sasson 1967, strains belonging to "Bacillus carotarum" Koch 1888, and the strain LMG 18508 = NCIMB 8796 of "Bacillus macroides".
Bacillussimplex is the correct name if this species is regarded as a separate species (i.e., if its nomenclatural type is not assigned to another species whose name is validly published, legitimate and not rejected and has priority) within a separate genus Bacillus.
In the effective publication by Priest et al. 1988, this name is cited as Bacillus simplex (ex Gottheil 1901) Priest et al. 1989. However, according to the Index Bergeyana, the synonym is "Bacillus simplex" Meyer and Gottheil 1901 in Gottheil 1901.Publication:
