Subspecies and species names using Group A adjectives, part 1, E-N

Epithets of species or subspecies can be formed from simple or compound Latin or Neolatin adjectives [Rule 12c (1), Rule 13b]. Group A adjectives are declined according to the first (feminine) or second (masculine, neuter) declension and either end in -us (masculine), -a (feminine), -um (neuter) or in -er (masculine), -ra (feminine), -rum (neuter). One part of the species and subspecies names found in LPSN and derived in that manner are shown here, arranged according to the stem of the adjective. Compound adjectives are grouped according to the last part (the one that is modified according to the gender) as far as possible. See also the LPSN introductory page on forming names.

In the case of a new combination these epithets must be adapted to the gender of the genus name: -us (masculine), -a (feminine) or -um (neuter).
